Known for their “energetic and kinetic programming” (The Post-Journal, Jamestown), Brass-hoppers is a trio comprised of trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden, trombonist Zenas Kim-Banther, and pianist Milana Strezeva. These gifted women hail from diverse points around the globe and are educated at some of the finest music schools in the world, creating an exquisite brass sound with a lush keyboard.
The Trio's music portrays an eclectic blend of traditional classical music and jazz inspired arrangements of standards and popular tunes.
Illinois-born trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden holds degrees from The Curtis Institute of Music and Yale School of Music, and won the 2012 International Women's Brass Conference Trumpet Competition. A Yamaha Artist, Mary is an international soloist and chamber musician. Both Mary and Zenas are founding members of Seraph Brass.
Moldovan-American pianist Milana Strezeva received her Bachelor and Master degrees from the Juilliard School, and is a founding member of the award-winning Manhattan Piano Trio, one of the most creative and dynamic young ensembles in America.
Korean-American trombonist Zenas Kim-Banther studied at the New England Conservatory and Rotterdam Conservatory. Zenas has been a featured soloist on international stages, and is a member of the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass.
Brass-hoppers is featured on Mary’s upcoming debut cd, Radiance, performing Joseph Turrin’s Fandango.
